Queen guitarist Brian May has been appointed chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University in Britain.
May will start the job as honorary head of the university in February, taking over from Cherie Blair, wife of former British PM Tony Blair.
Brian May was awarded his doctorate in astrophysics in August. He started his PhD in 1974, but abandoned it when Queen's fortunes took off before returning to his studies last year.
"Brian May is an intensely talented individual who achieved global success with the band Queen," said the university's chief executive & vice-chancellor Professor Michael Brown.
"In this age of celebrity culture, it is rare to find someone who has fame and universal acclaim and yet who remains true to his core values of learning & enlightenment.
