United were hoping to exorcise the ghost of the 2009 Final against the same team. However, the 'tiki taka' passing game that has become the hallmark of this team punctuated why they are regarded as the best football team on the planet at this moment.
Despite starting brightly as they did in Rome two years ago, United fell behind to a Pedro goal.
Nevermind that Rooney cancelled out that goal seven minutes later, that did not dampen but made Barcelona pressed forward even more with Iniesta & Xavi pulling the strings in midfield.
Then in the 54th minute Wembley witnessed why Lionel Messi is the best player in the world with a superb left foot strike that gave the Catalans the lead.
David Villa completed United's misery in the 69th minute & gave Barcelona the crown to European Football.
I guess it's back to the drawing board for United to plot another path to European glory next season. But there's no shame in this defeat, the best team won.
